Precautions to be taken

As with any other surgical procedure, it is essential to maintain proper care after the hair transplant surgery and take all the necessary precautions after the hair transplant. However, there are a set of hair transplant care instructions that one must follow to achieve the procedure’s desired results. Therefore, in addition to care after a hair transplant, you must also take certain precautions before the surgery.

Driving a Vehicle

Make plans to have someone drive you home after your surgery. Although hair transplant surgery rarely requires sedation, it is advisable not to drive while under the influence of a sedative. Even if you feel well, you should not drive for at least a day following your surgery since sedatives might affect your reflexes and thinking processes.

Exposing to direct sunlight

Avoid direct sun exposure to your scalp for the first two weeks if travelling after hair transplant surgery. If you must go outside during that time, make sure you don't expose your scalp for brief periods, especially between 10 am to 2 pm. Don't wear any hats or ball caps for the first three days. After a hair transplant, scabs that form naturally take three days to solidify. During this period, it's best not to let anything near your head. After the initial three days, covering your scalp with a hat can help.

Swimming pool or sea

Ideally, patients should avoid swimming in pools for 2 to 4 weeks following the surgery. In this time, the scalp will heal. This way, the chlorine will not affect the grafts once the time has passed. In addition, there are specific contaminants present in the freshwater which can increase the risk of infection. Earlier it might be possible that you take a dip in the ocean water, but now we all know even the ocean water is not that clean. Therefore, it is ideal to stay away from rivers, oceans, and lakes.

Exercising

Even light exercise might cause you to sweat, irritating your scalp and leading to infections, so it's best to avoid doing anything for a week or so after your surgery. Unfortunately, avoiding exercise during the first week following hair transplantation isn't enough. Avoid doing anything else that will make you sweat a lot. It would help if you avoided saunas, steam rooms, and prolonged sun exposure in the early days.
